Privacy Policy

We handle your financial data with the same care you use to manage your money. Here is exactly what we collect, why, and what we will never do with it.

Who we are

AvoirWealth is a personal finance application operated by AvoirWealth Inc., a corporation registered in British Columbia, Canada. We provide Canadians with a connected dashboard to track their net worth, investment portfolio, and budget in one place.

This Privacy Policy applies to all users of avoirwealth.ca and the AvoirWealth application ("the Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Policy.

We are subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation. We take these obligations seriously.

What data we collect

We collect only what is necessary to provide the Service.

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you sign in via Google, we receive your name and email from Google's authentication service.

Financial data you provide. AvoirWealth works by importing financial data that you upload directly. This includes account statements, transaction histories, investment holdings, and any other financial records you choose to add. We do not connect to your bank on your behalf, and we do not store your banking credentials.

Profile and settings. Preferences you configure within the app, such as account names, budget categories, and display settings.

Usage data. We collect anonymized, aggregate data about how the Service is used. This may include pages visited, features used, and general interaction patterns. This data does not identify you personally.

Support communications. If you contact us through our in-app feedback form or by email, we retain those communications to respond to you and to improve the Service.

Technical data. Standard server logs including IP address, browser type, device type, and access timestamps. This is collected automatically by most web services and is used only for security and operational purposes.

We do not collect your Social Insurance Number, banking passwords, card numbers, or any government-issued identification. AvoirWealth is a read-and-display tool. You import your data. We store and display it back to you.

How we use your data

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide the Service. Displaying your net worth, investment performance, and budget is the core function of AvoirWealth. Your financial data is used exclusively for this purpose.
  • To manage your account. Processing authentication, storing your preferences, and maintaining your data securely.
  • To communicate with you. Sending product updates, feature announcements, and responses to your support requests. You control what communications you receive.
  • To improve the Service. Understanding how users interact with features helps us build a better product. We use anonymized, aggregated usage data for this purpose only.
  • To ensure security. Monitoring for unusual activity, investigating potential abuse, and protecting the integrity of your account.
  • To comply with the law. Retaining records as required by applicable Canadian law, and responding to lawful requests from regulatory authorities.

We do not use your financial data to train machine learning models or AI systems, including our own.

What we will never do

Our commitment

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with third parties for commercial purposes. Ever.

This is not a legal formality. It is a founding principle of AvoirWealth. Your complete financial picture is among the most sensitive data you have. We will not monetize it.

Specifically, we will never:

  • Sell your data to financial institutions, insurers, advertisers, or data brokers
  • Share your financial data with any third party for their commercial benefit
  • Use your data to serve you targeted advertising
  • Allow any third party to access your individual financial data without your explicit consent
  • Use your data to build profiles for external parties

Our business model is subscriptions. We are paid directly by you for a product you find valuable. That alignment is intentional.

How we store and protect your data

Your data is stored on Canadian servers operated by Supabase, a SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure provider. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit using industry-standard protocols (TLS 1.2+, AES-256).

Our database uses row-level security controls, which means your data is isolated at the database level. Even within our own systems, queries are scoped to your account only. No other user can access your data, and our application is built so that even internal access is minimized.

We use authentication provided by Supabase Auth, which supports secure email-and-password login and Google OAuth. Passwords are never stored in plain text.

While we take reasonable and industry-standard measures to protect your data, no system is completely immune to breach. In the event of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable Canadian law.

Third parties and service providers

We work with a small number of trusted service providers to operate AvoirWealth. These providers process your data only on our instructions and are contractually prohibited from using it for their own purposes.

  • Supabase. Database hosting and authentication. Your financial data lives in Supabase-managed infrastructure. Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified.
  • Google. If you choose to sign in with Google, Google authenticates your identity. We receive only your name and email address. We do not share any further data with Google.
  • Email service provider. We use a transactional email provider to deliver account notifications and newsletters. They receive your email address for this purpose only.
  • Analytics provider. We use a privacy-respecting analytics tool to understand how the Service is used in aggregate. This tool does not use cookies for tracking, does not collect personally identifiable information, and does not share data with third-party advertisers.

We do not use advertising networks, social media pixels, or any other third-party tracking technologies on AvoirWealth.

Your data is stored on Canadian servers. We are committed to keeping your personal and financial data within Canada.

Email communications

We collect your email address when you create an account or subscribe to our newsletter. We use this address to send you:

  • Transactional emails related to your account (password resets, security alerts)
  • Product updates and feature announcements, if you have opted in
  • Our newsletter, if you have subscribed

In accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), we will only send commercial electronic messages with your explicit consent. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. You can also manage your communication preferences at any time in your account settings.

Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not affect transactional emails related to your account security or service.

Cookies and analytics

AvoirWealth uses a minimal number of cookies necessary to operate the Service. These include session cookies that keep you logged in and preference cookies that remember your settings.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party cookies for behavioral profiling.

Our analytics tool is configured to collect only aggregate, anonymized traffic data. It does not use cookies to track you across sessions or across other websites. No personally identifiable data is sent to our analytics provider.

Your rights under PIPEDA

Under PIPEDA, you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to access. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you at any time.
  • Right to correction. If your personal information is inaccurate or incomplete, you may request that we correct it.
  • Right to withdrawal of consent. You may withdraw consent to the collection or use of your personal information at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions. Withdrawing consent may limit your ability to use the Service.
  • Right to deletion. You may request that we delete your account and personal information. We will fulfill this request promptly, subject to any legal retention requirements.
  • Right to lodge a complaint. If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you may file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@avoirwealth.com. We will respond within 30 days.

Data retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you close your account, we will delete your personal and financial data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain records by applicable law.

Anonymized, aggregate usage data may be retained indefinitely as it cannot be linked back to you.

Support communications may be retained for up to two years to assist with ongoing service improvement.

Children's privacy

AvoirWealth is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us at support@avoirwealth.com and we will delete the account promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Policy.

We will never make changes that reduce your privacy rights without explicit notice and, where required, your renewed consent.
